Silver Creek Fish Report

June 12, 2011

This little creek has been getting a lot of attention right now.  Most reports coming back are that the fishing is relatively slow but some trout are being caught on a regular basis.  The Brown Drake hatch has not happened just yet but there are some reports that a few anglers are seeing a few drakes here and there which is a good indication that the hatch might come off if the weather warms up.  Small size 20 BWO's and PMD's in the late afternoon are the main diet right now.  Some Calibaetis around the S curves and a few caddis in the eve. round out the menu.  Just remember the Brown Drake hatch is an eve. hatch so don't go to crazy during the day that you're to tired to fish in the eve.  The hatch is usually a hurry up and wait type scenario.

Calibaetis, baetis and trico's are on the plate at Silver Creek.  Again make sure you have plenty of emergers in sizes 18, 20, and 22.  It's Trout Hunting 101 here at the Creek.  Be prepared to walk the banks looking for feeding fish in the mornings and late afternoons.  Patience is a virtue on the creek and if you have plenty of it then you should do well.  If not, then try fishing the Wood River instead.

The Brown Drakes are finally here.  Two weeks behind schedule, the famous Brown Drake hatch has finally hit Silver Creek.  Head over to Point of Rock just before sun down for some unbelievable dry fly fishing.  Bring plenty of Brown Drake dries and Brown Drake emerger patterns and then hold on!  :You need to get going because this hatch will only last a week or so.  At the Conservancy, trout are hitting PMD's in the late mornings and Calibates in the afternoon and Caddis in the evening.

June 1, 2010

Opening day saw mixed review coming from \Silver Creek.  Baetis and PMD's in the upper section along with some Calibaetis on the lower S curves.  This is a spring creek where you see a lot of trout feeding on emerging may flies and you have got to have a good selection of may fly emergers in different sized in your fly box.  Having the right type, size and color emerger can make the difference between a bad day and a excellent day of fishing on Silver Creek.  No word yet on the Brown Drake Hatch!

Blue Winged Olives (Baetis), Midges and Mahoganies are what Mayflies are ruling the creek right now.  It's not easy fishing but a persistent angler can have a good day on the creek.  You've got to remember these trout have had angler's and boots all summer and fall and can be very wary to any pattern of fly you toss.  So the key here is to be as patient as possible and work the creek very slowly.  Pick your battles and have a good selection of patterns to work over rising fish.  The brown's are spawning so don't hesitate to throw a good streamer through some deeper sections. you may be rewarded by hooking a monster.

October 7, 2009

Fishing has been real tough and the fish have been real spooky after a season of constant fishing pressure.  However Baetis and Mahogany Duns are keeping them active and should still give you plenty of action if you are patient.  Be sure to bring a variety of different patterns with you, sometimes presenting these fish with a unique pattern that they have not seen will bring a good strike.

Trico's and PMD's are still the order on Silver Creek.  If you go you get the added treat of watching Summer turn to Fall.  It's still tough fishing, the trout have really been worked over the past Summer.

September 15, 2009

More of the same at Silver Creek.  Trico's are all the rage but the trout are really wary of anglers after a solid spring and summer of boots and fly rods all over the place.  Usually this time of year the crowds have thinned down a lot and you don't have the problem of other anglers working trout around the bend from you.  Have a good supply of May flies and spent Trico's and enjoy.

September 4, 2009

If you like Silver Creek, now is the time to be there.  First of all the May flies are all over the place with Trico's in the morning, then more May flies and more May flies and more of the same.  The variety of fishing can be challenging  but the best reason for going is the fishing pressure is down from the prime time summer tourist fishermen.  You won't find the competition for water that you normally do when school is in session.  You can fish all day long and not catch any fish but still feel like you had a great day on the water.

August 24, 2009

Fishing is outstanding but the catching is very challenging on Silver Creek.  Tico's, PMD's, Baetis, Callibaetis and evening Caddis are all on the plate. So if you feel like a challenge, go the Silver Creek.

August 17, 2009

Caddis, Trico Spinners, PMD's and Callibaetis are the bugs to watch out for.  This time of year you should see a good spinner and spinner fall action in the morning.  Followed up by a late morning splurge of PMD's and then some Callibaetis action in the lower section.  A good Caddis Hatch in the evening should round your trip to Silver Creek up.  Well worth the drive to get there.

August 5, 2009

It's tough fishing at Silver Creek.  It's not that the trout aren't biting it's just they have been fished over all summer now.  The fish are spooky and a little sluggish due to typical summer water warming.  But you can still have a good day on the Creek if you look for Trico Spinners in the morning and PMD's along with Caddis in the late morning and evening.  Have a good assortment of flies because you may be searching for the right type of stage the PMD is in.  ( Dun, Emerger, Cripple, Spinner etc.)

July 22, 2009

The S curves are producing great hatches of Tricos, PMD's and Callibaetis.  These fish can be very picky so have a good selection of emergers to drop behind.  Study the rise forms of feeding trout and that should clue you in to what phase of the hatch the Trout are feeding on.

June 25, 2009

Now that the Brown Drake hatch has sputtered through what you'll find on Silver Creek is plenty of PMD action.  Recently on the S curves section of the creek the PMD's and PMD emergers have been coming off really good.  What you'll see is pods of trout schooled up near the middle sipping adult Duns and emergers.  Over by Point of rocks the eve. Caddis should keep you busy most of the eve.  The water level  because of all the rain has been high and a little off color but the fishing has been very good.

June 10, 2009

Anglers are giving mixed signals at Silver Creek recently. Most of the action has been on Pale Morning Duns. I think timing is the key. Between the wind and all the rain lately you should plan your fishing for mid morning or late afternoon. You may see a decent Caddis hatch in the afternoon so be ready. People are starting to see a few Brown Drakes on the lower section. If they begin to hatch, drop everything and put off everything and try to fish that hatch.
